Hanè Saga with A Victus Films

 Welcome to Hanè Saga & A Victus inaugural short film competition, celebrating Utah’s 100 years in Film & Television. We offer a great opportunity to gain visibility for your short on a global market, and network with other industry creatives.

 Hanè Saga & A-Victus Short Film Competition (HSASFC) presents an exceptional platform for filmmakers to not only showcase their work but also to connect and enhance visibility. Serving as a vital link to industry professionals, HSASFC provides tangible opportunities for aspiring filmmakers to realize their ambitions. 


The Short Competition is structured into two seasons - winners from each season will be invited to a Gala in St.George, Utah where the overall winner is announced.

Each Season winner of their category will win a retreat ticket for Hanè Saga (travel not included), and their short will be shown at the retreat with other industry professionals. You will also get a 30-minute call with a Producer/Manager.


 Your short will be seen and judged by Industry Professionals. Judges: Alexia Melocchi (Little Studio Films), Heather Braden (A-Victus US) & Christopher Schlief (A-Victus Europe).

Rules & Terms

MAKE SURE TO READ THE RULES!

  • Short films, max 10 minutes in length will be accepted. Foreign speaking films need to have English subtitles.
  • Completion Date after January 2021.
  • An evaluation scorecard will be provided after 72 hours of submission.
  • The evaluation scorecard is not linked to the Jury’s final decision.
  • Entry Fees are non refundable. 
  • It is possible to submit same short for all categories as long as criteria is met. 
  • If a short does not meet the category criteria, the short will be disqualified.
  • All decisions of the Jury is final.


By entering your film into Hanè Saga & A-Victus SFC, you grant permission for its exhibition at the retreat and award Gala, and assume complete legal responsibility for the intellectual property associated with the film. 


The undersigned agrees to indemnify and absolve Hanè Saga & A-Victus SFC from any claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses arising from copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and any loss or damage to the entered videos.

Awards & prices

Structure -

Hanè Saga & A-Victus SFC is divided into two seasons, with season winners - and ONE Annual Gala in February where the overall winners will be announced and celebrated. 

Additional Prizes will be presented at the Gala.


1st season: 

January - February - March - April - May - June. The Season winner will be announced in July.

2nd Season: 

July - August - September - October - November - December. The season winner will be announced in January.

How it works -

  • Every six months that season's winner will be announced. The winner of each category will receive a ticket to the closest upcoming Hanè Saga Retreat (travel not included), and a 30-minute Zoom call with either AM/HB/CS.
  • Winners will also be interviewed for the podcast “Heart of Showbusiness”, an article in HS Newsletter, and blasted on Social Media. The retreat will screen the winners, and the retreat offers workshops/panels, and networking with Industry Insiders and Professionals.

Heidi Stangeland is a writer who specializes in creating suspenseful and mysterious stories using Nordic noir and/or Sci-Fi. As a native Norwegian, she draws inspiration from her cultural background and incorporates elements of mythology into her work, resulting in stories that transcend borders. 


In addition to her writing, she is also the founder of Hanè Saga, a nonprofit organization that supports and promotes storytellers. She currently resides in California with her children.

Christopher Lockhart

Christopher Lockhart is Hollywood’s foremost story professional. He is an executive, filmmaker, and educator with over 30 years of industry experience. As Story Editor at one of the world's largest diversified talent agencies, Christopher curates film and TV projects for A-list actors. He has read over 60,000 screenplays in his career. 


Christopher founded a Facebook group called The Inside Pitch, where he moderates over 15,000 creatives and offers daily advice and feedback on navigating the Hollywood script maze.

 Alexia Melocchi has over 25 producing credits of films from emerging filmmakers from all over the world and has been an instrumental facilitator to the financing process of movies by pre-buying on behalf of her International Distribution clients, which grossed 900 Million US in the box office in the last decade. She attends all Major Film and Television Markets and is fluent in five languages. She is also the host of the 5-Star rated podcast THE HEART OF SHOW BUSINESS, and author of the book "An Insiders Secret: Mastering the Hollywood Path".

Jeremy is a veteran IP attorney in the entertainment field. He has worked at Netflix, Disney, and 20th Century Fox. Some of the shows he has worked on include High School Musical, The Muppets, Avatar, Modern Family, The Simpsons, X-Men, Ice Age, Empire, Family Guy, Glee, Sons of Anarchy, Stranger Things, The Witcher, When They See Us, and Bridgerton. Jeremy has been recognized as an IP Star by Managing IP, and as a top 300 in-house IP professional by World Trademark Review, and his Netflix team has repeatedly been nominated as one of the best in-house teams in its industry, region, and the world.


After leaving his role as head of IP for Netflix, Jeremy began organically working with Fortune 500 and mid-market companies to solve significant, complex issues. This consulting experience made him realize that he truly treasures leveraging his many years of IP and media experience to help great people solve complex problems. Consequently, he is excited to introduce his company, Jeremy Kaufman Consulting, which specializes in IP, media, technology, and legal management matters.

Lauren Daisy White has spent her career in sales, talent management, film financing, creative development, producing, as well as behind the camera and in front of camera capacities. She is an actor, writer, stunt performer, producer, and overall… an entertainer. Lauren can be seen in the upcoming Kevin Lewis directed horror feature “Oak.”


She is partner in the film & TV production company T-Minus Productions, which she runs alongside her husband TJ White. She’s curated a strong slate of film and TV projects for T-Minus Productions. Most recently they produced the satirical superhero Netflix series, “The Guardians of Justice.”  T-Minus also embodies a stunt department that designs action scenes for all forms of media including Film, TV, Commercials, music videos, live events, and print. The T-Minus Stunt Department is a curated collective of Action Directors, Stunt Coordinators, Stunt Riggers, and Stunt Performers who are all at the top echelon of the action world. 


As if that wasn’t enough, Lauren also owns the water company, Gluten Free Diet Water. And she is the co-founder of the tech platform Jockoh, the solution for content creators to market their digital content and build their global community.

 James Fox is the Founder and CEO of Dawnrunner and brings with him the creative power of 14 action-packed years in the film industry. As the principal Director for Dawnrunner he has lead the company through numerous award-winning projects He has been recognized within the industry for his passion and determination to advance the industry through education and outreach, and has spoken numerous events. His ``breaking down barriers`` approach to filmmaking, creativity and technical street-smarts have labeled him a visionary for the future of visual storytelling through new methods and technological innovations. He refers to his crew as family, and provides strong and charismatic leadership - and an inexhaustible well of excitement and energy.

Kelly Schwarze

Kelly Schwarze is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, author, and entrepreneur. He has produced and directed eight feature films, three TV documentaries, and numerous commercials, working with A&E Networks, History Channel, ABC, and Scripps Networks. He co-owns the Las Vegas-based film studio Indie Film Factory, founded by his wife Charisma Manulat in 2011. The studio has facilitated over eight independent feature films and various TV shows for NBC, ABC, Disney, Amazon Studios, and EOne.


Kelly specializes in micro-budget filmmaking, handling projects ranging from $30,000 to $100,000. His strategic partnerships with ITN Distribution and his own licensing company highlight his business acumen. He is also the author of four books on filmmaking, including What Film Schools Don't Tell You and A Filmmaking Mindset. In 2022, he premiered his latest feature, Darkest of Lies, and launched a new animation studio. His next animated film is expected in 2026.


Kelly frequently lectures at the College of Southern Nevada, where he hosts an 8-week film producer’s bootcamp.

With over 20 years of production expertise spanning 21 countries and three continents, Heather Braden has worked in various roles in the film industry, including Production Assistant, grip, lighting technician, locations manager, director's assistant, script supervisor, and camera assistant (ranging from 5th to 1st assistant). Her foundational experience includes over a decade as a first assistant camera for renowned directors and photographers such as Ruven Afanador, Norman Jean Roy, and Rankin. She further honed her skills as a commercial photographer and producer before becoming a film director, TV series creator, writer, producer, and founder of A Victus Film USA.


Co-founding A Victus Film (Victus Film EU/Dubai) in 2023, Heather established the headquarters in Southern Utah for its epic scenery, new film incentives, and proximity to Las Vegas and Los Angeles. She oversees numerous projects, including scripted series and narrative films, many of which he created. Her mission is to bring captivating stories to audiences worldwide, leveraging her extensive experience and seamless collaboration across multiple languages with talent, crew, and executives.

Shaan Sharma is a working actor, SAG-AFTRA union leader, acting educator, writer, and former top casting session director. Shaan is currently acting on the international hit TV show "The Chosen" playing Shmuel (thechosen.tv), Founder of The Storytellers Conservatory, an on-camera acting studio (storytellersconservatory.com), Co-Founder of the top Fiction “Table Read Podcast,” Guest Lecturer for the University of Southern California, and an Adjunct Professor for PACE University’s School of Drama, a SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local and National Board Member, a proud founding member of SOLIDARITY, a grassroots SAG-AFTRA education group (solidarity.us), and spent more than a decade working as a casting session director with over 45 of the top commercial casting directors in Los Angeles.


 Shaan is also a Backstage Expert Contributing writer with over 50 published advice articles for performers and the author of the book and audiobook, “Commercial Acting in LA: A Session Director’s Guide.”

Christopher Dalbey is the head the literary division at VGP Management Talent & Literary. He is also  SAG-AFTRA actor who is notable for recurring roles on shows like THE KNICK, he has garnered praise for lead performances in Indie horror hits like A DARK

PLACE INSIDE and GHOST BOX. Christopher's creative talents extend to screenwriting, with nearly a dozen features under his belt.
